But yes, the version of this “vbox extpack” (see the link) is 4.3.40.įrom your previous reply, do you suggest that I try to run it from the host? How should I do this? Also, while I was on the download page on Oracle's site I downloaded (in the Mac host) a package called “Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.40-110317a.vbox-extpack”. It's later on, only after coming across that thread in MacRumors, that I downloaded “vbox extpack” in the guest, tried to run it and immediately got that blunt error. That's what I was referring to in the first posts. Sorry for the confusion: I got those terminal-looking errors in the jpeg after “inserting” the Guest Additions CD image from the VB Manager's Devices menu and running autorun.sh from the Linux file manager. If I'm not mistaken, it seems that Linux doesn't quite know what to do with a “vbox-extpack” file.

I then came across this thread on MacRumors, same case it seems, but after downloading VirtualBox 4.3.40's Extension Pack from here which gave me “An error has occurred” (instead of the original poster's “Archive type not supported”). It ends up with some errors that I don't understand - attaching the terminal-like result as a zipped screenshot, as I'm not able to put it on the clipboard and as the forum here doesn't seem to accept jpegs.
#VIRTUALBOX LINUX FOR MAC INSTALL#
And I don't intend to use the VM for 3D stuff.Īnyway, even if the GUI is much nicer, I'm really stuck trying to install the VBoxGuestAdditions (from the iso CD image downloaded in the Mac), which I think I remember are necessary for the guest and the host to swing properly together. After testing, it doesn't seem to make any difference whether it's 16 or 128Mb.
